About reproductions in general:
A reproduction or print is a machine-produced “copy” of an original artwork, in this case a painting. However, we avoid using the term “copy” because it carries a rather pejorative connotation in this context and can be misleading.
Instead, we use the terms reproduction or print.
At TamIstArte Art Gallery & Shop, there are currently three types of reproductions available for purchase (based on Tamás Náray’s paintings):
Paper Print (giclée)
Canvas Print (giclée)
Organic Glass (plexiglass) Reproduction (PLEXIGLAS®)
About giclée prints (paper and canvas prints):
Giclée is a French word whose original meaning is “to spray.”
Today, the term giclée print has become synonymous with the most modern inkjet printing technology.
Giclée printing is a new, advanced method of artistic printing that meets the highest expectations of artists, collectors, and museums.
For this reason, giclée fine art printing is now equivalent to the better-known traditional printing techniques such as etching, screen printing, and lithography.
Giclée prints are among the highest-quality printed products available today and are produced using the most advanced technology. But giclée is not just a technique - it is also an artistic publishing method: the artist can produce a uniquely numbered series of prints from a digital reproduction of an existing work.
True giclée prints are produced in very high resolution with pigment-based fade-resistant inks on archival, acid-free materials. Such fine art papers and canvases have a binder layer that ensures the printed image and its substrate remain together for 100 years or more.
About acrylic (PLEXIGLAS®) reproductions:
The widely marketed organic glass framed print is not only a permanent feature of exhibitions, but also an increasingly popular element in interior design and architecture.
The technique used for these organic glass prints is a special method for presenting and installing unique prints from paintings. The organic glass sheet is closely fitted in front of the print (using a special adhesive to fix the print and the UV-resistant organic glass front panel to the backing board free of air and bubbles), giving the image exceptional depth, vibrant color, and sharpness.
Directly bonding the front surface of the print to the back surface of the glass eliminates the light reflection typically seen with traditional framed glass, and even increases the image’s sharpness, contrast, and color saturation. When light passes through the acrylic glass layer, the way it reflects from the print produces a completely different effect compared to traditional framed glass. With this unique manufacturing method, the scattering of light is reduced due to the homogeneity of the acrylic glass, resulting in sharper, more vivid, more intense, and more immediate colors.
Differences Between Types (as shown in the two photos):
In the left photo (first), you see the organic-glass print; in the right photo (second), you see the canvas print.
The colors of the organic-glass reproduction are slightly more intense (for the reasons described above), and its surface is glossy, glass-like. Each organic-glass print is made as a single copy of the given artwork in the chosen size - meaning these images are completely unique. These artworks are always sold with the floating frame shown in the photo.
Canvas Prints:
Canvas prints (giclée prints) faithfully convey the feel of a painting thanks to the special scanning technology used to digitize the original work.
